Catania

Catania, 30 minutes away from Sant'Alfio, is renowned for its rich nightlife, the University, the artistic events at Teatro Massimo Bellini, the activities of its 25 theatres and for the feast celebrating its Patron Saint, Agata.

The city was chosen as the movie set for the movies “Sparrow” (Franco Zeffirelli, 1993) and “I Viceré” (Roberto Faenza, 2007). The San Giuliano Church, in the old town centre, is a masterpiece of religious architecture of the late 18th Century, thanks to its uniquely shaped façade and its oval shape. Another building to mention is Palazzo Biscari that was built following the laic 18th Century Rococo architecture style.

The different dominations of the city (Greeks, Romans, Normans, and the Swabia families)left many imprints in art, culture and architecture.
The old town centre, recently restored, is a precious example of the 18th Century architecture.
The tombs of the kings of Aragon are located inside the Cathedral of Catania, built in 1078.
